This introductory course will introduce students to the French-speaking world over a period of approximately 6 weeks. We will cover the following topics, but not necessarily in this order, and not necessarily every topic, since each cycle is different due to various schedules, activities, and holidays.
Introduce yourself; Ask people how they are; Say how you are
Pronounce the French alphabet;
Count from 0-20; Ask how old people are; Say how old you are
Pronounce French words; Use cognates to talk about yourself and what you like
Recognize the French words for important classroom objects and commands
Use the French words for colors and recognize and describe the work of Henri Matisse
Talk about the days of the week, the months of the year, and French holidays
Sing a traditional French song and say the parts of the body
Recognize 21 French cultural and historical facts
Discuss five important facts about one of the 18 French regions
Recognize the more than 20 countries where French is the official language
Understand and explain the importance of the French language in our world
Understand the history of and make (and eat!) French crêpes
